Derby Starter Analysis By: Steve Fugitte |
Is a very live longshot in here. I can't understand why people knock him so much. His race in Arkansas was great - as he locked on to horse after horse and was only failed to duel the winner into submission. Then he followed that up with a good third in the Blue Grass. Progressive type should improve again here and he'll get a more relaxed trip than usual here. Post six and Alex Solis won't hurt. Very interesting bet across the board at odds projected to exceed 100-1 on my betting line. Interesting that Eddie D. kept the mount on this guy as long as possible before ending up on Perfect Drift. You heard it here first - he can contend. |

Pedigree Anlysis By: John Gaver III |
Born: April 3, 1999; Dosage Index: 1.86
Irish-import Ocean Sound (Ire) is by the black-type winner Mujadil, a sire of seven crops and 13 stakes winners including Group II stakes winner Bouncing Bowdler (Gb); Group III stakes winner Show Me The Money (Ire) and the minor stakes winners Lady Storm (Ire), Daunting Lady (Ire) and Mujair. Ocean Sound (Ire) is out of the Tejano mare Ossana and is her only foal. Tejano was a stakes winner of $1.4 million and a sire of nine crops and 57 producing daughters including the black-type winner Kailiki. While there is not a ton of black type in Ocean Sound's first two dams, his third dam traces back to the useful stakes winners Gaelic Queen and Gaelic Bird (Fr). Ocean Sound (Ire) is bred top and bottom to thrive going a route of ground, as his pedigree cross, or nick, is stamina-on-stamina. On his sire line, Ocean Sound's (Ire) bloodlines trace back to Northern Dancer (via Storm Bird) and on his distaff side his pedigree traces back to the fine stayer Caro (Ire) (via Tejano). Ocean Sound (Ire) shouldn't have any difficulty staying 10 furlongs based on pedigree analysis alone.
