Trainer Steve Margolis reported Sunday (May 5) morning that his first Kentucky Derby (GI) starter came out of Saturday's (May 4) race in good order
"I thought he ran a good race. He is a hard-tryer, and he did that yesterday," Margolis said. "It is a shame they didn't pay down to fifth so the owners could have gotten some of their $30,000 back.''
Margolis indicated the Preakness (GI) was not likely for Request For Parole.
"I have got to see how he is doing and talk it over with the owners (Jeri and Sam Knighton)," Margolis said, "but I would like to find an easier spot for him."

Derby Starter Analysis By: Steve Fugitte |
This son of Judge T C will take a slightly unorthodox route to the Kentucky Derby, simply training up to the race after finishing third in the Lane's End Spiral Stakes under Pat Day on March 23. With a record of 4-3-2 from 10 starts already under his girth, having skipped the Toyota Blue Grass shouldn't be much of a problem for the colt, owned by Jeri and Sam Knighton. "He's doing good," said trainer Steve Margolis. "We just want to do what's right for the horse and give him the extra time." |

Pedigree Anlysis By: John Gaver III |
Born: February 22, 1999; Dosage Index: 3.57
Request For Parole is by the young stallion Judge T C, a graded stakes winner who has sired five black type winners including Request For Parole, Lady Sheri, One Special Judge and Maresha. He is out of the unraced Deputy Minister mare Madison's Quest, who is a half-sister to the multiple graded stakes winner Singular Bequest. While Request For Parole's sire line is lacking a definitive source of classic stamina, he does get an additional source of staying power from his broodmare sire, Deputy Minister, who was a two-time champion, Horse of the Year and a member of the Northern Dancer sire line (via Vice Regent). As a broodmare sire, Deputy Minister is the sire of 227 producing daughters and 63 black type winners including the dams of millionaire Maruka Diesis, the multiple stakes winner License Fee, Maltese Superb, Redattore (Brz), Success Beauty (Jpn), Humble Clerk, Prime Directive, Mountain Range, Scottish Halo and Erlton. Request For Parole's pedigree is an example of an In Reality (via Judge Smells)- Northern Dancer (via Vice Regent) pedigree cross, or nick, and while his bloodlines are not exactly screaming a mile and a quarter, Request For Parole possesses the one intangible element that makes any racehorse competitive, a lot of heart.
