Recent Developments
John and Jerry Amerman's Siphonic will be taken out of training due to "wear and tear" in his right, front ankle, trainer David Hofmans told The Blood-Horse's Steve Haskin on Mar. 22. "We're going to give him a little R and R," Hofmans said. "He came out of the San Felipe (GII) with a little stiffness in his right front ankle. He X-rayed clean and scanned clean, but he must have twisted the ankle, which is probably why he didn't want to change leads. We don't want to tear him up, so we're just going to back off. We're finished, temporarily, but we'll be back in late summer or early fall." Siphonic finished third, beaten six lengths, as the 2-5 favorite in the San Felipe Stakes (GII) on St. Patrick's Day (Mar. 17) at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif. Under high weight of 122 pounds, Siphonic stalked pace-setting Medaglia D'oro in second before taking a short lead on the backstretch. He inched away between calls into the second turn, but weakened in the final eighth of a mile, as U S S Tinosa outfinished him in the lane to gain third.
