Pedigree Anlysis By: John Gaver III |
Born: April 2, 1999; Dosage Index: 1.73
The Bob Manfuso homebred Belterra is a beautifully bred filly that has the pedigree to thrive on the racetrack going not only nine furlongs, but also a classic distance of ground. She is by the late, great champion Unbridled, who earned nearly $4.5 million at the races and is a sire of 10 crops and 27 stakes winners including champions Banshee Breeze and Anees and the millionaires Lady Ballade (Ire), Red Chili Pepper, Unbridled's Song and Manistique. Belterra is out of the unraced mare Cruising Haven, who is by the fine outcross broodmare sire Shelter Half, a sire of 74 producing daughters and 12 black type winners including the multiple graded stakes winner Royal Haven, Weather Vane and Latin Dancer. Shelter Half is by Tentam, a son of the champion Intentionally, who was the sire of the fine stallion In Reality. Belterra is a half-sister to the aformentioned Royal Haven, a multiple graded stakes winner who posted 19 wins from 41 starts at the races and won nearly $900,000. She also has quality stakes winners laden in her first three dams, as the hard-knocking Kentucky circuit campaigner Allijeba, winner of the Louisville Handicap, is out of Belterra's second dam, Sailing Leader, and the stakes winner Bold Josh and the champion Miss Alleged are products of Belterra's third dam, Sailor Town. Belterra is a filly who is bred to get better as she gets older and the distances increase; she'll have no problems staying the nine furlong distance of the Kentucky Oaks (GI).
