Oaks Starter Anlysis By: Steve Fugitte |
Likely to be the favorite off three smashing wins this winter and spring. Dream season for trainer Kenny McPeek continues as he has the probable favorite in both races and what a coup it would be if he could pull off the coveted Oaks/Derby double. Not convinced she will hold down the first half though - as several West Coast fillies she has not seen entered this and may be faster. Also thought my top two choices trained better than this filly in the fortnight leading up to the Run for the Lilies. Wants to go close early in here and will be subject to several others with speed who will ride to beat her. Incredibly nice filly is not a good win bet here at 9-5 but remains one of the best of her generation and will take plenty of beating if they let her relax at all. |

Pedigree Anlysis By: John Gaver III |
Born: February 4, 1999; Dosage Index: 2.67
The well-bred Take Charge Lady, who was purchased out of the same Keeneland sale as the Select Stable's Kentucky Derby (GI) 128 hopeful Repent, is by champion Dehere, who was a precocious racehorse that passes that trait on to his offspring. Dehere is by the top-class sire Deputy Minister and is a sire of five crops and 33 stakes winners including champions Belle Du Jour (Aus) and Mi Amigo Guelo; the graded stakes winners Graeme Hall and Descapate; the listed stakes winners Easyfromthegitgo and Miss Seffens and the minor stakes winner Ironman Dehere. Take Charge Lady is out of the Rubiano mare Felicita, an unraced half-sister to the stakes placed performers Zarbyev and Northern Tryst, who has produced three named foals, two runners and two stakes winners. Take Charge Lady's half-sister Eventail is Grade III stakes placed and a winner of the restricted New York Oaks. As a broodmare sire, champion Rubiano has sired 13 producing daughters including Take Charge Lady and her half-sister Eventail, an earner of over $200,000. Take Charge Lady is an example of a Northern Dancer (via Vice Regent)-Raise A Native (via Mr. Prospector) pedigree cross or nick, a source of stamina in the sire line crossed with a speed-influenced female family.
