You Wins Santa Anita Oaks, Gains Upper Hand In Rivalry With Habibti
Edmund Gann's You gained the upper hand in
her rivalry with The Thoroughbred Corp's Habibti as the Bobby
Frankel-trained daughter of You and I scored a half-length victory over
her Bob Baffert-trained foe in Saturday's $300,000 Santa Anita Oaks
(GI).
Jerry Bailey rode the winner, who had earlier beaten Habibti in
the Las Virgenes (GI) at Santa Anita. Habibti had won their matchup in
the Hollywood Starlet (GI) after both had finished off-the-board in the
Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (GI) at Belmont Park. Both trainers said
their fillies will be pointed to the $500,000 Kentucky Oaks (GI) at
Churchill Downs on May 3.
Select Stable's Take Charge Lady scored another dominating
victory in New Orleans as she lead from the start to win the Fair
Grounds Oaks (GII) by five lengths under jockey Tony D'Amico. She
covered the 1 1/16-mile distance on a "fast" track in 1:43.30, which
marked the second consecutive race in which she recorded a faster
winning time than stablemate Repent managed against colts at the same
distance on the following day.
Bedanken earned a trip to the $200,000 Fantasy (GII) on April 12
with a win in Saturday's 1 1/16-mile Honeybee at Oaklawn. The Donnie
Von Hemel-trained daughter of Geri has a record of 4-1-0 in five starts.
Undefeated Belterra, an easy winner over Take Charge Lady in the
Golden Rod (GII) at Churchill Downs, makes her 3-year-old debut for
trainer Carl Nafzger in Friday's Bonnie Miss (GII) at Gulfstream Park.
