Trainer Todd Pletcher took some lumps on Saturday (Apr. 12), first when Indy Dancer ran sixth in the Wood Memorial (GI) and later on when Lion Tamer ran sixth in the Blue Grass (GI) and Aristocat ran eighth in the Arkansas Derby (GII). Pletcher was the only trainer to start a horse in all three Big 3 Pick 3 races.
"[Jockey] Johnny Velazquez said that Indy Dancer didn’t handle the track at all at Aqueduct," Pletcher said. "[Jockey] Rene Douglas said Aristocat was fighting the track at Oaklawn the whole way and never got going. Lion Tamer got off slow, then rushed up in there, leveled off, got into some trouble, finally got into position and then flattened out.
"They all came back good, but here is nothing else for us to do but to pack them all up and give them a little break. Eventually, they will all wind up in New York."

Born: February 28, 2000
Dosage Index: 3.00
The slightly built colt Lion Tamer is by the young sire Will's Way, a son of Easy Goer who won the Grade I Travers Stakes as a 3-year-old and nearly $1 million lifetime at the races. He is the sire of two crops and, at this writing, Lion Tamer represents his only stakes winner. A February foal, Lion Tamer is out of the young stakes-placed Olympio mare Tippecanoe Creek, the dam of just two foals. As a broodmare sire, Olympio is the sire of 26 producing daughters including the Midwest stakes winner Cojet, who has nearly $250,000 in lifetime earnings to his credit. As a sire, Olympio, a son of Naskra, has eight crops and 21 stakes winners including Oak Hall, an earner of over a half million on the racetrack, and the Southern California stakes winner Olympic Charmer. Even though Lion Tamer sports a Dosage Index on the high side (3.00) and isn't built like a router, his young sire did win the 10-furlong Travers Stakes (GI) as a 3-year-old and he is by the late, great champion and stayer Easy Goer, who earned nearly $5 million in his career and won the Belmont, Travers and Jockey Club Gold Cup and was second in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Breeders' Cup Classic as a 3-year-old. Additionally, Easy Goer won the one-mile Gotham as a sophomore in 1:32 2/5, narrowly missing Dr. Fager's world record (1:32 1/5) for eight furlongs. Futhermore, Easy Goer was by the main track stayer Alydar, runner-up to Affirmed in all three legs of the 1978 Triple Crown. His slight build aside, Lion Tamer's pedigree, with a heavy dose on stamina on his top line, says he's capable of staying nine-to-10 furlongs.
