Walter "Buddy" New's Lone Star Sky, 15th in the Kentucky Derby, was reported to be doing well on the morning after the race by trainer Tom Amoss.
"He's a hundred percent healthy," said Amoss, who participated in his first Kentucky Derby.
Lone Star Sky was steadied in traffic nearing the first turn and was never closer than 14th in the 16-horse field. Amoss said he was not sure what would be next on the colt's agenda.
"I think we take a serious step back here," he said. "We'll re-evaluate not only what race is next, but how much distance we're going to put into him."

LONE STAR SKY was a late entrant into the race by owner Buddy New and trainer Tom Amoss, sharp connections who know they are taking a shot here with a runner who has held questionable form of late. Positive spin is that he has trained great for this and ran the race of his life here last year to win the Bashford Manor. Seasoned in graded stakes but he has been unable to beat several in this field in many tries at them. Has the running style to pick up a paycheck with a career effort but it may not be in the tank after a pair of fairly dull races. Willing to play against this one but I often cash good tickets on his trainer and have plenty of respect for him. |

The Florida-bred colt Lone Star Sky is by champion and Horse of the Year Conquistador Cielo a sire of 18 crops and 61 stakes winners including four-time champion Montauciel; millionaires Marquetry and Forty Niner Days and the graded stakes winners Wagon Limit and Lexicon. Lone Star Sky is out of the unraced Deputy Minister mare Ministrada, and Lone Star Sky is her only foal. Ministrada is out of Grade II stakes winner Funistrada, dam of the stakes winners Conte Di Savoya, who was fourth in the 1992 Kentucky Derby, and Krisada, winner of the Grade II La Prevoyante Handicap. As a broodmare sire, the top class stallion Deputy Minister - two-time champion and Horse of the Year - is the sire of 238 producing daughters and 75 stakes winners including the millionaires Maruka Diesis, License Fee, and Maltese Superb and the additional top-class stakes horses Redattore (Brz), Sarava, Tenpins, Success Beauty (Jpn), Prime Directive and Mountain Range. Despite Lone Star Sky's highish Dosage number, he is by a Belmont Stakes winner who has thrown main trcak stayers such as Marquetry and his tail female line traces back to champion turf horse Cozzene in his fourth dam. He's bred to get a mile and a quarter should it make it into the starting gate for Derby 129.
