Outta Here, who passed six horses in the stretch to finish seventh and less than five lengths off the board, is scheduled for a Monday morning return to his home base at Hollywood Park.
"I am undecided (about Outta Here's next start)," trainer and co-owner Bill Currin said. "We will go back home and reassess where we are, either the Belmont or some California grass races."

OUTTA HERE shipped all the way to Dubai for the United Arab Emirates Derby and could only manage fourth though it was a 14-horse field. Trained up to the Derby since with no further preps and that is probably because the trip halfway around the world tends to drain almost every horse who makes it. Easiest positive thing to point out is that he has been a 10 furlong trip but he didn't exactly finish with authority against lesser, though somewhat older, competition that included Southern Hemisphere 3-year-olds. Trainer Bill Currin is new to the Derby and may have brought a knife to a gun fight. Can't endorse. |

The chestnut colt Outta Here is by the champion Dehere, the sire of five crops and 49 stakes winners including champions Belle Du Jour (Aust) and Mi Amigo Guelo; the graded stakes winners Take Charge Lady and Graeme Hall and the stakes winers Easyfromthegitgo and Outta Here. This colt is the lone foal from his dam, the Forty Niner mare Just Out, though he sports a fine tail-female line, as his third dam is the blue-hen broodmare Fabuleux Jane, a Group III stakes winner in France and the dam of Grade III stakes winner Doubles Partner from the family of Grade I winners Joyeux Danseur, Arazi and Noverre. His dam sire is Forty Niner, who is the sire of 129 producing daughters and 23 stakes winners including millionaires High Yield and Inter Taiyo (Jpn), in addition to the stakes winners Trip, Tashiro Spring (Jpn), Descapate, My Boston Gal, Shake The Dice, Tres Coronas and Deputy Warlock. Though Dehere couldn't stay a classic distance of ground at the races and isn't known as a sire who gets many winners beyond a mile and an eighth, this colt does have plenty of classy stamina influences peppered throughout his female family. Futhermore, he's inbred to Neartic, the sire of 1964 Kentucky Derby (GI) winner Northern Dancer. I'm not fully convinced that a mile and quarter is beyond this colt's scope, especially considering he was only beaten five lengths and change in the 10-furlong UAE Derby despite being the recipient of a wide trip. The issue with this colt isn't his pedigree, it's how much that trip to Dubai and back affects him. Even though he has a good two-year-old foundation, this colt has only run once as a sophomore and has shipped from California to Louisiana to California to Dubai to California to Kentucky since Dec. 21. Seems likes this colt's travel itinerary might be the biggest thing working against his chances to win Derby 129.
