Pedigree Analysis By: John Gaver III
Off The Visa Triple Crown Trail Born: February 26, 2000
    Dosage Index: 3.33
The chestnut colt Region Of Merit is by the white hot young sire Touch Gold, winner of the Belmont Stakes (GI) and Haskell Invitational as a 3-year-old and the sire of top sophomores Composure, a leading contender for this year's Kentucky Oaks; Midas Eyes, winner of the Swale Stakes (GIII); Powerful Touch, second to Offlee Wild in the Holy Bull Stakes (GIII) and Flirt With Fortune, third to Buddy Gil in the Grade III Baldwin stakes on turf. This colt is out of the Gone West mare Inoocently Astray, who was multiple stakes placed at the races and is out of the stakes winning mare Syncopating Lady (by In Reality). Region Of Merit's tail female line is laden with black-type and traces back to the multiple stakes winners Excitable Lady and the hard-kocking Chindi in his fourth dam. The top class stallion Gone West is the sire of 135 producing daughters and 14 stakes winners including Saudi Poetry, Equality, Wadif, Gowestforgold, Shooter, Western Quality, Popular, Saddlespur, Sixtyone Mmargaux and Talk Is Money. Region Of Merit is inbred to Neartic, the sire of 1964 Kentucky Derby winner Northern Dancer, and his sire, Touch Gold, won the twelve-furlong Belmont Stakes. His dam was a router who is by a top class sire - Gone West - that throws crack sprinters and routers. Region Of Merit should be able to stay a 10-furlong trip despite his high dosage number.
