Famed Las Vegas Oddsmaker Roxy Roxborough Joins Derby 129 Handicapping Team
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 1, 2003) - As one of the country's top
oddsmakers, Michael "Roxy" Roxborough set the morning line for
everything from who will win the Super Bowl to whether scientists will
find a cure for the common cold. This year, the handicapping guru once
known as "the man who made the odds in Las Vegas" joins Churchill Downs'
team of online handicappers with his "Top 20" picks for the Kentucky
Derby (Grade I), scheduled for its 129th renewal on Saturday, May 3.
Roxborough's list of Derby favorites can be found at
www.kentuckyderby.com, the official Web site of the Kentucky Derby and
Oaks. The noted handicapper provides a brief analysis of his "Top 20"
contenders' past performances, along with his current Derby odds for
each horse. Roxborough joins Churchill Downs' official team of Derby
prognosticators - John Asher, Steve Fugitte, John Gaver III and Lane
Gold - from his home in Bangkok, Thailand, where he's lived for the past
three years.
"As a life-long fan of horseracing and the Kentucky Derby, I'm thrilled
to share my insights on how the field for this year's 'Run for the
Roses' is shaping up," said Roxborough. "The Derby is one of the world's
most challenging events to handicap, and Kentuckyderby.com offers all
the behind-the-scenes news and information a serious horseplayer needs
to research the crop of 3-year-old Thoroughbreds and sort the contenders
from the pretenders. I'm happy to add my selections to those of
Churchill Downs' team of experts."
Roxborough may be best known for founding Las Vegas Sports
Consultants ("LVSC") in 1982, through which he provided odds to major
Nevada sportsbooks as well as licensed bookmaking operations in Mexico,
Europe and Australia. By mixing mathematics with computer technology, he
has consistently provided bookmakers with the most accurate odds
available. Roxborough retired from LVSC in 1999 and currently devotes
his time to his syndicated column, America's Line, which appears in more
than 125 newspapers in the United States and Canada.
Among his many professional distinctions, Roxborough has been
listed as one GQ magazine's "50 Most Important People in Sports" and the
Daily Racing Form's "10 Most Influential People in Gaming."
Kentuckyderby.com is the official Web site of the Kentucky Derby

running of this celebrated event is scheduled for May 3, 2003, at
Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Approximately 150,000 people attend
