The well-bred bay filly Allspice is by the young sire Coronado's Quest, a sire of two crops and three stakes winners at this writing including the Group II stakes winner Al Jadeed, Allspice, and Battle Chant. Cornonado's Quest is a son of Forty Niner and a representative of the Raise A Native (via Mr. Prospector) sire line, generally regarded as a source of speed in Thoroughbred bloodlines. On the racetrack, Coronado's Quest, who was extremely high-strung, won over two million dollars and notched Grade I victories in the Haskell Invitational and Travers Stakes. Allspice, a Jim Tafel homebred, is out of the unraced Sadler's Wells mare Music House, who is the dam of four named foals to date, all of which have made it to the races with Allspice being her only winner. Music House is out of the fine racemare Sugar And Spice, winner of the Grade I Mother Goose Stakes and dam of the Grade II stakes winner Cinnamon Sugar (Ire). Allspice's tail female line is loaded with stamina from a great Calumet Farm family. Her third dam is former Broodmare of the Year Sweet Tooth, the dam of champion 3-year-old filly Our Mims and the multiple Grade I stakes winner Alydar, runner-up to Affirmed in all three legs of the 1978 Triple Crown. As a broodmare sire, champion and sire-of-sires Sadler's Wells is the sire of 307 producing daughters at this writing including the dams of stakes winners El Condor Pasa, a three-time champion; two-time champion Diktat (Fr); champion Dark Moondancer (GB); Sakhee, an earner of over $2 million; Fusaichi Concorde (Jpn), an earner of over $2 million and millionaires Silic (Fr), Zachariah (GB), Born King (Jpn) and Morshdi (GB) in addition to the group stakes winner Zindabad (Fr). Allspice's pedigree is example of a speed on stamina cross, or nick. With a staying-power laden distaff family that traces back to a foundation broodmare at Calumet Farm (Sweet Tooth), Allspice will have little trouble staying nine furlongs and should relish go longer.
