Peachtree Stable's Chimichurri failed to fire in the stretch and finished a non-threatening fourth, beaten 10 lengths by My Boston Gal, in the Grade II Stonerside Beaumont Stakes at Keeneland on Apr. 10. No plans have been announced regarding the Elusive Quality filly's next start, though she is not expected to start in the Kentucky Oaks (GI) on May 2 at Churchill Downs.

The chestnut filly Chimichurri is by the young sire Elusive Quality (by Gone West), one of the top freshman sires of 2002. He is the sire of two crops of racing age and six black-type winners including Elusive City, winner of the Group 1 Prix Morny; Omega Code, winner of the Grade III San Miguel Stakes; Grade III Tempted Stakes winner Chimichurri and the additional stakes winners Frankiefourfingers and Adopted Daughter. While Chimichurri's sire line traces back to Raise A Native (via Mr. Prospector), generally a source of speed in Thoroughbred pedigrees, Gone West is a very versatile sire who has thrown graded stakes winning sprinters and stayers. Chimichurri does get a dose of stamina from her distaff family, as she is out of the Raja Baba mare Hard Knocker, who is a grandson of Bold Ruler out of a Round Table mare. She was unraced but has also foaled Chimichurri's half-brother, Huambo (by Green Dancer), a minor stakes winner in Germany. Hard Knocker's dam is the fine broodmare Homespun, dam of Group 1 winner Mashaallah, Grade I winner Folk Art and the multiple stakes winner Sportin' Life. Chimichurri's tail female line also traces back to the Grade II stakes winner Connie's Gift and the Grade III stakes winner Court Hostess. As a broodmare sire, Raja Baba is the sire of 248 producing daughters and 76 stakes winners including millioniare Sugino Cutie, Advancing Star, Swiss Yodeler, Opening Theme, Doradoradora, Beldeviled, Prankster, Weekend Delight, Impulsive Spender and Lynclar. Even though Chimichurri's trainer, Todd Pletcher, has indicated he'd be inclined to keep his charge in sprints in the early part of the year, Chimichurri does have a strong stamina influence on the distaff side of her pedigree, which could help her stay a mile and a sixteenth to a mile and an eighth.
