Both Nick Zito Oaks trainees - Bird Town and Holiday Lady - galloped 1 ¼ miles at Churchill on May 1 under exercise rider Maxine Correa, and assistant trainer Reynaldo Abreu said "they are as best as they can be." Zito told reporters he was hopeful the track would not be "quite as fast" for the Oaks as it has been for other big races. "I don't understand - it's all the tracks, not just Churchill Downs - on big race days they all seem to be faster. It makes no sense." 4.27.2003 - Holiday Lady Video Workout

Pedigree Analysis By: John Gaver III
HOLIDAY LADY pressed the pace in the Ashland but could not finish the job and faded to third in what was still a solid effort and prep for this Oaks. Certainly outran her odds that day after being sent postward at 28-1 for dangerous trainer Nick Zito and he knows how to win on Derby weekend as evidenced by Strike the Gold and Go For Gin. Rider Jose Santos should know her better in his second pairing with the filly but will need to rate her as much as possible, as she did in Gulfstream's Bonnie Miss two back, to avoid a similar or worse fate than she suffered in the Ashland. Daughter of Deputy Commander figures to stay the distance and shows a good race in last year's Golden Rod over this track when second to My Boston Gal at 14-1. Certainly capable of making her mark in the exotic wagers if able to lay off the speed here and should be considered at odds for second, third and fourth honors. Born: April 14, 2000
    Dosage Index: 3.00
The bay filly Holiday Lady, a $170,000 yearling purchase in November of 2000 at Keeneland,is by Grade I Travers Stakes winner Deputy Commander, the sire of three crops including a fine group of 3-year-olds of 2003 with Holiday Lady, third in the Grade I Ashland Stakes and second in the Grade II Golden Rod; Brancusi, second to Peace Rules in the Grade I Toyota Blue Grass Stakes and a game third to Buddy Gil in the San Felipe Stakes (GII); Grade II Illinois Derby winner Ten Most Wanted and the listed stakes-placed performer Virgin Voyage to his credit. Holiday Lady is out of the Miswaki mare Olatha, who is also the dam of Putra, a Group III stakes winner in England, and hails from a fine female femaly, as her second dam, the French-bred Pagaie (Fr) is a full-sister to French Oaks (Gr. I) winner Dunette, who is the dam of Grade I Rothmans International winner French Glory (Ire). Holiday Lady's fine tail female line also traces back to Grade I La Prevoyante Handicap winner Ampulla in her third dam and Shardari, the champion older horse in England and France in her fourth dam. As a broodmare sire, Miswaki (by Mr. Prospector) is the sire 325 producing daughters and 85 stakes winners including champions Daylami, Galileo, Hernando and Talkin Man, in addition to the stakes winners Landseer (GB), Silence Suzuka (Jpn), Taiki Fortune, Taiki Dia, Memory and Jasper (Jpn). Holiday Lady is by mile and a quarter Travers winner Deputy Commander and sports a stamina-oriented distaff family. She'll have little trouble staying the mile and an eighth distance of the Kentucky Oaks (GI).
