Ivanavinalot, the winner of the Bonnie Miss Stakes (GII) at Gulfstream Park this season, needs to breeze once more at Calder before her trainer Kathleen O’Connell decides if they are going to take the 3-year-old filly to the Kentucky Oaks (GI).
"I am very pleased with her work yesterday," said O’Connell in regard to Ivanavinalot’s six-furlong work on Wednesday, Apr. 16 in which she was timed in 1:15 breezing. "She came out of it fine this morning and ate up last night. We’ll have to see how she goes back to the track tomorrow (Friday, Apr. 18)."
In her last race, the Ashland Stakes (GI) at Keeneland, Ivanavinalot never got into the race and finished a dull seventh.
"She got absolutely nothing from that race," said O’Connell. "I hate to run her a mile and an eighth and ship her too with nothing between the Bonnie Miss and the Oaks. She will need to work another really good work here first before we decide. I don’t want to take her [to Louisville for the Oaks] if she’s not 110 percent."
O’Connell said that a decision would be made either late this weekend or early next week in regard to sending the filly to Churchill Downs. If they decide to pass the Oaks, O’ Connell said the Black Eyed Susan (GII) at Pimlico the day before the Preakness would be their next option.

The homebred Ivanavinalot is by the obscure Forty Niner sire West Acre (out of the Honest Pleasure mare Narrate), an unraced stallion who is a three-quarter brother to the Grade I winning Claiborne Farm runner Preach and a full brother to the stakes-placed Claiborne campaigner Ledford. West Acre is also a three-quarter brother to Yarn, the dam of English and Irish champion Minardi, Grade II King's Bishop Stakes winner Tale Of The Cat and the minor stakes winner Spunouttacontrol. Yarn is also the granddam of Johannesburg, the champion juvenile colt in England, France, Ireland and North America in 2001. At this writing, West Acre has sired two crops to race with Ivanavinalot being his lone black-type earner. Invanavinalot is out of the unraced Deputy Minister mare Beaty Sark and is a half-sister to the multiple South Florida stakes winner Shananie's Beat and to the stakes winner Slick Lady. As a broodmare sire, the top class stallion Deputy Minister - two-time champion and Horse of the Year - is the sire of 238 producing daughters and 75 stakes winners including the millionaires Maruka Diesis, License Fee, and Maltese Superb and the additional top-class stakes horses Redattore (Brz), Sarava, Tenpins, Success Beauty (Jpn), Prime Directive and Mountain Range. On the racetrack, Invanavinalot has won two-turn races by open lengths and while nine furlongs may be right on the distance limitations boundary for her sire, West Acre, the Deputy Minister stamina shot on her distaff side will help her to stay nine furlongs.
