Heiligbrodt Racing Stable's Lady Tak visited the starting gate and then galloped a mile before the renovation break at Churchill on May 1 under exercise rider Lisa Orn. A paddock schooling session is scheduled with Thursday (May 1) afternoon's fourth race. Lady Tak will break from post seven in Friday's Kentucky Oaks (GI) under Jerry Bailey. "Everything is fine. Now just line them up and run," said Scott Blasi, assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen. "She has had a good three weeks here (at Churchill since the Ashland)."

LADY TAK is the best looking young filly I have ever seen. She looked
like a
statue schooling in the paddock Tuesday at Churchill with sculpted
muscles
and perfect balance and demeanor. Wow. She has only lost once, when
substitute rider Corey Lanerie was unable to run down Elloluv after that
rival got loose on the lead in the Ashland and was allowed to coast
through
splits of :48 3/5 and 1:12 3/5 - criminally slow for this class of
routing
filly going long on a speed-favoring track. Should get a much better
setup
in Kentucky Oaks 129 with several figuring to duke it out on the lead
while
she sits in the garden spot under All-World rider Jerry Bailey, who has
picked up a super live mount. Think the defeat at Keeneland actually
took
some of the pressure off of her and trainer Steve Asmussen and Bailey
seems
impervious to pressure anyway after winning every big race in America
multiple times. Looks better and better the deeper you go as she has won
both local starts at Churchill and has trained sharply while maintaining
her
relaxed composure since returning to Louisville. The most likely winner
of
Kentucky Oaks 129 and her morning line price of 4-1 would be highway
robbery
if it holds up. This is the win bet. |
Born: April 5, 2000
Dosage Index: 3.44
A $75,000 two-year-old in training purchase from Keeneland last April, Lady Tak is by Mutakddim, a stakes-winning son of Seeking the Gold who is out of a half-sister to champion Rhythm (by Seattle Slew). He is the sire of three crops to race at this writing and 15 stakes winners including Hattiesburg, Miss Noire, Chamul and Treasure Coast Gem. On the racetrack, Mutakddim competed on turf in England and was at his best going six to seven furlongs, where he was a minor stakes winner at four. Lady Tak is out of the Lucky North mare Star Of My Eye, the dam of four foals, all of which have made it to the races and have won with Lady Tak representing her only stakes winner. Star Of My Eye is by the Northern Dancer stallion Lucky North, a sire of 67 producing daughters including the stakes winners Brass In Pocket, Sparkles Of Luck, Fertile, Lucky Sword, She's Fantastic, Zesty Zoe, Eighteen Carat, Blonde Okie and Posidonas. This chestnut filly has proven she is quick and precocious, but she has yet to prove (as of 1/20/03) that she can carry her speed around two turns. Judging by her speed-oriented pedigree, it looks as if a mile to a mile and a sixteenth may be pushing the distance limitations of her bloodlines; nine furlongs may be farther than she wants to go.
