PRO PRADO is probably the least accomplished horse in the field as he's run third to Smarty Jones in each of the three Oaklawn Park Derby preps. Steady colt will be ridden by John McKee, who rides first call for trainer Bob Holthus and has already had a lot of success for the outfit in his brief career. Good news is that his mount has the late running style to pick up the pieces when many who have run too hard early tire and that could help him run on late for a minor paycheck, which seems to be his best scenario. Backers could get triple digit odds here and he would make the superfecta pay in the five figure range if able to even garner fourth. Pro Prado is by champion El Prado (Ire), a sire of 7 crops and 30 stakes winners including millionaire Nite Dreamer, multiple stakes winner The Happy Hopper, the veteran stakes-winning sprinter Chindi and the crack turf sprinter/miler El Cielo, and Derby 130 entrant Borrego. Additionally, El Prado (Ire) is a son of legendary European sire-of-sires Sadler's Wells, who is by Northern Dancer, winner of the 1964 Kentucky Derby (GI) and a prominent influence in the bloodlines of past Derby winners. Pro Prado is the second foal out of his dam Mama's Pro; her first foal won once going long on the dirt. Mama's Pro was considerably more proficient in her career, finishing with a 7-8-7 record from 32 starts, earning $435,805. Her wins included the Pontalba Stakes at two, the Dixie Belle Stakes and Martha Washington Stakes at three, and the H.B.P.A. Handicap at Ellis at age four. Further back in Pro Prado's female line, the sire of his fourth dam is 1956 Derby winner Needles. Dosage Index: 1.73
