QUINTONS GOLD RUSH drew wide to break from post 20 in the Derby and he's probably the most affected by the draw. Switched barns in the month before the Derby in hopes of making the field with a win in the Lexington and he did just that, emulating the path of Derby winner Charismatic who also ran fourth in the Santa Anita Derby before winning the Lexington. New trainer Steve Asmussen hasn't had much success in the Derby but he runs one of the biggest and strongest stables in the U.S. and is no stranger to huge races. Corey Nakatani picks up the mount and it's likely he will let his colt run from the gate in hopes of dropping over to secure good stalking position. Seems like there is a lot for this colt to overcome breaking widest of all in the toughest race of his life - all on two weeks rest. Asking a lot here. |

Quintons Gold Rush is by Wild Rush, winner of the Illinois Derby (GII), the Metropolitan Handicap (GI), the Kentucky Cup Classic Handicap (GIII) (where he dead heated with Silver Charm in a memorable stretch-long duel), and the Carter Handicap (GI). He finished with an 8-0-3 record from 16 starts, earning nearly $1.4 million. This second crop stallion is the sire of four stakes performers, including 2003 Canadian two-year-old champion Judith's Wild Rush, winners Fencelineneighbor (Barona Stakes at Del Mar), Friendofthefamily (Scottsdale Stakes at Turf Paradise), and Wimbledon (Louisiana Derby GII)). His two-year-old colt was the sales topper at the recent February Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company at Calder sale, going for $1.6 million. He is currently standing stud in Japan. Qunitons Gold Rush is the second foal out of the Mr. Prospector mare Hollywood Gold. Her first foal has earned slightly over $100,000 in dirt route races as of this writing. Hollywood Story was unraced, but sold for $295,000 at Keeneland as a yearling in 1995. Her dam, Lady In Silver, was a Group One stakes winner in France who also finished second, at age three, to Steinlen in the 1989 Arlington Million (GI).
