Coming Derby Week! Rock Hard Ten is by Kris S., who had three wins, one in a minor stake, in his short five-race career. Kris S., who passed away in May 2002, has had a much greater impact through the breeding shed than he did on the race track. His offspring include four Breeders’ Cup Champions: Prized (1989 Turf), Hollywood Wildcat (1993 Distaff), Brocco (1993 Juvenile), and Action This Day (2003 Juvenile). He has also sired Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Kissin Kris, two-time Japanese Horse of the Year Symboli Kris S, and Oaklawn Handicap (G1) winner Kudos. Rock Hard Ten is out of the mare Tersa, who was owned and bred by the Paulsons. She has had six foals to race prior to Rock Hard Ten, with three winners from the group. Tersa herself was a grade one winner at age two, taking the Prix de Morny in France. Overall, she won three of twelve while racing primarily in Europe. Tersa is a half-sister to Gato Del Sol, winner of the 1982 Kentucky Derby (GI) who was a very durable horse that was a stakes winner or stakes placed every season in his five years of racing. Rock Hard Ten is inbred 3x4, directly through both his tail male and female lines, to the great stamina influence Hail To Reason, who was a champion at two and top three sire four times between 1965 and 1972. He is also inbred 4x4 to Nashua, beaten favorite in the 1955 Derby who won 22 of 30 starts, seventeen in stakes, including twice victorious in the two mile Jockey Club Gold Cup (GI), the Belmont (GI), and Preakness (GI). Dosage Index: 2.11
