Eurosilver Returns With Gulfstream Allowance Win
By: Lane Gold

Buckram Oak Farm's Eurosilver, one of two-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Nick Zito's three early contenders for the 2004 "Run for the Roses," made a successful debut as a 3-year-old as the colt scored a five-length victory in a seven furlong allowance race for three-year-olds at Gulfstream Park Wednesday afternoon.

The son of Unbridled's Song sat just off the pace early through a quarter-mile time of :23.16 and :45.92 for the half. As the field approached the top of the stretch, he overtook pacesetter Tenace and, after a couple of strikes of jockey Javier Castellano's whip, Eurosilver drew away for the easy victory. He covered the seven furlongs in a slow 1:24.45.

Eurosilver improved his career record to 3-1-0 in four career starts, which included a victory in the Lane's End Breeders' Futurity (G2) at Keeneland. His career earnings now stand at $305,600.

Zito said after the race that he is pointing Eurosilver to the seven-furlong Swale (G3) on March 13 at Gulfstream and then the Toyota Blue Grass (G1) on April 10 at Keeneland.

Zito's other two stakes winning colts, Birdstone and The Cliff's Edge, have yet to make their three-year-old debuts. The former, a half-brother to 2003 Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner and 2003 3-year-old filly champion Bird Town, captured the Champagne (GI) at Belmont last Fall and is expected to run in allowance race on the Fountain of Youth (GII) undercard. The Cliff's Edge captured Iroquois (GIII) and Kentucky Jockey Club (GII) during Churchill's Fall Festival of Racing and is tentatively in the Sam Davis at Tampa Bay Downs on February 21.
