Churchill Downs Unveils Official Kentucky Derby 130 Logo
By: John Asher

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 8, 2003) - The world famous Twin Spires, traditional Derby roses, and a horse and rider in full flight are among the key design elements of Churchill Downs' official logo for the 130th running of Kentucky Derby on May 1, 2004.

The logo, which was created for the second consecutive year by the Churchill Downs Incorporated graphics team, will serve as the official symbol for the 130th "Run for the Roses." It will adorn tickets, officially licensed merchandise and other premium items created for the 2004 renewal of America's oldest continuously held sporting event.

The design of the Derby 130 logo incorporates four colors and its central image is a contemporary design in beige and black of an onrushing Thoroughbred and jockey displayed against a background of black and green halves. The image of horse and rider is framed by a beige horseshoe trimmed in black and flanked by red roses that represent the traditional blanket of roses presented to each Derby winner. The familiar "Twin Spires" logo of Churchill Downs is located beneath the horseshoe and the top of the official logo contains the words "Kentucky Derby 130" and the event's site and date.

"We are excited about this logo and its potential to boost our efforts to strengthen and grow the Kentucky Derby," said Tyrone Tubbs, vice president of sales for Churchill Downs Incorporated. "It contains the strongest elements of the rich tradition of the Kentucky Derby and will be an important part of each item developed for our impressive new line of officially licensed merchandise and premium items for Kentucky Derby 130."

Officially licensed Kentucky Derby 130 merchandise that bears the new logo is expected to arrive in retail outlets in the region surrounding Churchill Downs in the next two weeks. Merchandise will also be available for purchase in the Kentucky Derby Store at the official Kentucky Derby 130 Website at www.kentuckyderby.com.

Churchill Downs, the world's most legendary racetrack, has conducted Thoroughbred racing and presented America's greatest race, the Kentucky Derby, continuously since 1875. Located in Louisville, the flagship racetrack of Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN) also operates Trackside Louisville, an off-track betting and training facility. Churchill Downs will conduct the 130th running of the Kentucky Derby on May 1, 2004. The track's 2003 Fall Meet is scheduled for Oct. 26 through Nov. 29.
