Derby 130 Logo Featured On Nascar Nextel Cup Series Stock Car And Limited Edition Specialty Die-Cast
By: John Asher
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 15, 2004) - Two of racing's most exciting
traditions, the Kentucky Derby and the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, will
come together on April 25 when the Kentucky Derby 130 logo is featured
on the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge driven by Sterling Marlin and on limited
edition specialty die-cast adult collectibles of the stock car created
by Action Performance Companies Inc.
The official Derby 130 logo, which was designed by the Churchill
Downs graphics team, will be part of the paint scheme on the No. 40
Coors Light/Kentucky Derby 130 Dodge when Marlin competes in the Aaron's
499 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Alabama's Talladega Superspeedway.
The April 25 race is scheduled six days before the 130th running of the
world famous "Run for the Roses" on Saturday, May 1.
Action Performance will produce die-cast replicas of Marlin's
No. 40 Coors Light/Kentucky Derby 130 2004 Dodge stock car in a variety
of highly prized, adult collector scales. The adult collectibles will be
on sale at Churchill Downs and other regional authorized Action Racing
Collectables dealers. The Coors Light/Kentucky Derby 130 Dodge die-cast
also will be available through Action Performance's regular distribution
channels, which include the Action Racing Collectables distributor
network and Racing Collectables Club of America. To locate an ARC
distributor, please call 1-800-411-8404. To join RCCA, call
1-800-952-0708 or visit www.goracing.com.
The cross promotion between Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Derby,
NASCAR and Action Performance for the Talladega race was facilitated by
Coors Light, the official beer of the 130th Kentucky Derby and the
primary sponsor of Marlin's No. 40 stock car, which is currently fielded
by Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates.
"There are no more exciting moments in sports than a nose-to-nose duel
down the homestretch at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby Day and a
breathtaking battle for the checkered flag in a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series
race," said Tyrone Tubbs, vice president of sales for Churchill Downs.
"Those unforgettable experiences come together beautifully in this
limited edition adult specialty die-cast of the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge
that will honor the 130th running of the Kentucky Derby in NASCAR NEXTEL
Cup competition on April 25 at Talladega Superspeedway. Many fans of the
Kentucky Derby and Thoroughbred racing are also devoted NASCAR fans, and
we're very pleased to join with such distinguished corporate partners as
Coors Light and Action Performance to offer all adult sports fans a
unique and memorable collectible that honors two of America's greatest
sports traditions."
This year's Coors Light/Kentucky Derby 130 Dodge marks the
second time that a stock car bearing the logo of America's greatest
horse race has competed in a NASCAR race. Kentucky-born driver Jeremy
Mayfield drove a car bearing the official Kentucky Derby logo during a
NASCAR event in 1999, and Action Performance also produced a die-cast
replica of that vehicle.
