My Meadowview Farm's colt is a son of European champion Giant's Causeway, who narrowly missed beating Tiznow in the Breeders' Cup Classic (GI) at Churchill Downs in 2000. One of five Derby contenders trained by Nick Zito, Noble Causeway is coming off a strong runner-up finish to stablemate High Fly in his stakes debut in the Florida Derby. Along with Zito, a two-time Derby winner, Noble Causeway has an experienced partner in jockey Gary Stevens, who has won the roses on three occasions. The steadily improving colt has finished worse than second only once in six races and has earned $245,780.
Noble Causeway is from the first crop of the Coolmore stallion Giant's Causeway, who was the European Horse of the Year in 2000. He was undefeated at age two (3 for 3), won five Group One stakes in Europe at age three, and was an unlucky second to Tiznow in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs. A son of Storm Cat, Giant's Causeway defeated some of Europe's best horses both sprinting and going a route of ground. Overall, he won nine of 13 starts, with four seconds, earning over $3 million. He has gotten off to an excellent start at stud, with three Group stakes winners in 2004, including the highly regarded Shamardal from the Godolphin Stable. Giant's Causeway is out of the mare Mariah's Storm, well known around Kentucky for her wins in the Falls City (GIII) and Mrs. Revere (GIII) at Churchill and upsetting Serena's Song in the Turfway Breeders' Cup (GII).
Noble Causeway is the first foal from his dam Mimi's Golden Girl. A daughter of Seeking the Gold out of the Private Account mare Classy Cathy, "Mimi" raced 27 times, 21 of thoses in sprints, where she scored her two lifetime victories. It is somewhat peculiar that she was almost strictly a sprinter, as Seeking the Gold had enough stamina to win the 10 furlong Super Derby as well as finish second in both the Breeders' Cup Classic and the Travers, both also 1 1/4 mile races. In addition, her dam Classy Cathy won routing in the Ashland and the Alabama, and finished fourth in the Kentucky Oaks.
