Going Wild Works; Andromeda's Hero To Train At Keeneland;
Godolphin's Blues And Royals Out Of Derby
By: John Asher
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 18, 2005) - Robert and Beverly Lewis' Going Wild,
runner-up in the Santa Catalina (GII) and winner of the Sham Stakes at
Santa Anita, tuned up for a run in Saturday's $325,000 Coolmore
Lexington Stakes (GII) at Keeneland with a five furlong work on Monday
at Churchill Downs.
The 3-year-old son of Golden Missile breezed in 1:01.20 over a
"fast" track for four-time Kentucky Derby (GI) winning trainer D. Wayne
Lukas. The move ranked as the third fastest of 29 at the distance.
Going Wild finished last, beaten 41 lengths by likely Derby
favorite Bellamy Road, in the Wood Memorial (GI) at Aqueduct on April 9,
needs a strong effort in the Coolmore Lexington to ensure a spot in the
starting gate for Kentucky Derby 131. He has a career record of 3-3-1
in eight races with earnings of $219,920 - but the colt has earned only
$47,500 of that total in graded stakes company.
If more than the maximum of 20 horses should enter the Kentucky
Derby, preference is given to horses with the highest total earnings in
graded stakes races.
ANDROMEDA'S HERO TO TRAIN AT KEENELAND - Robert V. LaPenta's Andromeda's
Hero, third in the Arkansas Derby (GII) and one of Nick Zito's five
contenders for the 131st Kentucky Derby, will stay away from the
excitement at Derby excitement at Churchill Downs until just before the
race.
The son of 2000 Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus returned
to Zito's barn at Keeneland Sunday evening following his solid effort in
Saturday's race at Oaklawn Park and his trainer said on Monday that he
would remain at the Lexington track to avoid the excitement at Churchill
Downs in the weeks leading up to the Derby.
"He's going to train at Keeneland," said Zito. "He's a Fusaichi
Pegasus and he's high strung. So we'll just leave him there at
Keeneland and bring him to Churchill Downs a couple of days before the
race."
Zito's four other Kentucky Derby hopefuls are stabled at
Churchill Downs. He said that Tracy Farmer's Sun King, a disappointing
fourth in the Toyota Blue Grass (GI), was doing well after that race.
Kinsman Farm's Bellamy Road, a dominating 17 ½-length winner of
the Wood Memorial, is scheduled to work on Thursday, April 21.
Zito's 1-2 finishers in the Florida Derby (GI) - Live Oak
Plantation's High Fly and My Meadowview Farm's Noble Causeway - breezed
over the weekend and are expected to work again on Saturday or Sunday.
GODOLPHIN'S BLUES AND ROYALS OUT OF DERBY 131 - Dubai-based Godolphin's
Blues and Royals, a 12-length winner of the $2 million UAE Derby at Nad
Al Sheba in late March, will not travel to Churchill Downs for the
Kentucky Derby.
A statement from Godolphin Racing Manager Simon Crisford on the
stable's Web site (www.godolphin.com) said that the son of Honour and
Glory had suffered a "setback" and was being pulled from consideration
for Derby 131.
Crisford said the colt was suffering from a low-grade
respiratory infection that has interrupted his training and that
immediate plans for Blues and Royals are "on hold."
The news regarding Blues and Royals means that Godolphin will
have missed three consecutive renewals of the Kentucky Derby after
competing in the race each year from 1999-2002.
WORK TAB (Track: FAST) - Kentucky Oaks (GI) contender Summerly, winner
of the Fair Grounds Oaks (GII), breezed five furlongs in 1:03...Multiple
Grade I winner Lady Tak breezed six furlongs in 1:15... Alumni Hall
breezed a half-mile in :50... Actxecutive breezed four furlongs in
:49...Gigiwatt breezed four furlongs in :48.40...Pass Rush breezed five
furlongs in 1:03.80...Sweet Talker breezed five furlongs in 1:01.40.
