Derby UpdatesBrother Derek Has "Good Look" On Day After WorkA.P. WARRIOR - Stan Fulton's A.P. Warrior walked the shedrow at trainer John Shirreffs' barn at Hollywood Park Tuesday morning, a day after working seven furlongs in 1:27.40. The A.P. Indy colt is scheduled to have one more work in California on Sunday in preparation for his engagement in the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (Grade I). The colt is scheduled to ship to Louisville next Tuesday. BARBARO - Lael Stables' undefeated Barbaro, winner of the Florida Derby (GI), walked Tuesday morning at Keeneland. The Dynaformer colt is scheduled to ship to Churchill Downs on Thursday and will be stabled in Barn 42. BLUEGRASS CAT/KEYED ENTRY - After taking Monday off following works on Sunday, Todd Pletcher-trained Kentucky Derby contenders Sunriver and Keyed Entry returned to the track on Tuesday. Aaron and Marie Jones' Sunriver, third in the Florida Derby, jogged under retired Hall of Fame jockey Angel Cordero, Jr. Starlight Stables, Saylor and Lucarelli's Keyed Entry, winner of the Hutcheson (GII) and third in the Wood Memorial (GI), jogged under exercise rider Jacob Roberts. WinStar Farm's Bluegrass Cat, winner of the Remsen (GII) and runner-up in the Tampa Bay Derby (GII), galloped 1 ¼-miles under exercise rider Luis Castillo. The son of Storm Cat is scheduled to work on Sunday at Churchill Downs.
BOB AND JOHN/SINISTER MINISTER/POINT DETERMINED - The Lanni Family Trust's Sinister Minister, upset winner of the Toyota Blue Grass (GI), paid his first visit to the main track at Churchill Downs Tuesday morning, galloping under exercise rider Mick Jenner. Trainer Bob Baffert's other two Kentucky Derby hopefuls, Stonerside Stable's Bob and John and the Robert and Beverly Lewis Trust's Point Determined, walked the shedrow at Santa Anita a day after working 1:25 and 1:24.80, respectively, for seven furlongs. BROTHER DEREK - "He is bouncing around and has a good look to him this morning," trainer Dan Hendricks reported from Santa Anita on the morning activity of Santa Anita Derby (GI) Brother Derek, who worked seven furlongs in 1:28.40 on Monday. Owned by Cecil Peacock, Brother Derek is scheduled to have a light gallop Wednesday morning with plans to leave the barn at 2 a.m. (PDT) for the flight to Louisville, where he will be housed in Barn 42 at Churchill Downs. CAUSE TO BELIEVE - Peter Redekop and Peter Abruzzo's Cause to Believe arrived at Churchill Downs late Tuesday afternoon following a combination plane-van ride from his home base at Bay Meadows in northern California. The son of Maria's Mon flew into Dayton, Ohio aboard of Federal Express flight and then traveled by van to Churchill Downs, where he arrived around 4:30 p.m. The Jerry Hollendorfer trainee is stabled in Barn 43 and will be ridden in the Derby by Russell Baze. DEPUTY GLITTERS - Joseph Lacombe Stable Inc.'s Deputy Glitters, winner of the Tampa Bay Derby (GIII), galloped 1 ¼ miles at Belmont Park under exercise rider Simon Harris. Trainer Tom Albertrani said the winner of the Tampa Bay Derby (Grade III) could work Wednesday morning. "It is clear here this morning and if the track dries out, he possibly could work tomorrow," Albertrani said. Deputy Glitters will ship to Louisville on Thursday and will be stabled in Barn 17. FLASHY BULL/JAZIL - West Point Thoroughbreds LLC's Flashy Bull, third in the Fountain of Youth (GII) and runner-up in the Holy Bull (GIII), jogged a mile at Keeneland Tuesday morning under exercise rider Desmond Farrell. Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin's other Kentucky Derby hopeful, Shadwell Stable's Wood Memorial (GI) runner-up Jazil, galloped 1 ¼-miles at Belmont Park under exercise rider Simon Harris. Jazil, who will be ridden in the Derby by Fernando Jara, is scheduled to ship to Keeneland on Thursday and then come to Churchill Downs with Flashy Bull on Saturday. McLaughlin said he plans to work the duo together Sunday morning. LAWYER RON - The Estate of James Hines Jr.'s Lawyer Ron galloped two miles before the renovation break under exercise rider Betsy Couch. "Nothing bothers him at all; he just likes to train," said Couch, who has been the regular morning partner of Lawyer Ron since mid-February at Oaklawn Park. The Langfuhr colt is scheduled to work Saturday for trainer Robert Holthus, who is due back in Louisville on Thursday from sales in Ocala, Fla. John McKee has the Derby mount. PRIVATE VOW/STORM TREASURE - Mike McCarty's Kentucky Derby duo of Private Vow and Storm Treasure walked under the shedrow on the day after a sharp five-furlong work at Churchill Downs and trainer Steve Asmussen said that both horses came out of their works well. Asmussen said the pair would return to the track for a gallop on Wednesday. Private Vow, winner of the Belmont Futurity (GI) and Kentucky Jockey Club (GII) at two, finished third in the Arkansas Derby (GII) in his most recent start. Storm Treasure finished second in the Toyota Blue Grass (GI). SACRED LIGHT - Amerman Racing Stables LLC's Sacred Light, runner-up in the Santa Catalina (GII), galloped 1 ¼-miles at sunny Hollywood Park Tuesday morning under exercise rider Martin DeRubin. Trainer David Hofmans has a seven-furlong work scheduled for Wednesday morning with jockey Aaron Gryder expected to be aboard for the move. Sacred Light is scheduled to ship to Churchill Downs on Saturday. SEASIDE RETREAT - William S. Farish Jr.'s Seaside Retreat galloped 1 ½-miles after the renovation break with exercise rider Jose Castanon up. Trainer Mark Casse is scheduled to arrive in Louisville on Wednesday, and the colt scheduled to work on Thursday with Derby rider Patrick Husbands up. SHARP HUMOR - Purdedel Stable's Sharp Humor galloped 1 ½-miles after the renovation break under regular morning partner Faustino Orantes. Trainer Dale Romans plans to work Sharp Humor Saturday morning with Derby rider Mark Guidry up. A native Louisvillian, Romans, 39, will be saddling his first Kentucky Derby starter in Sharp Humor. "This will be the 30th Derby I've seen, but the first time I have been in it," Romans said. SHOWING UP - Lael Stables' Showing Up walked the shedrow Tuesday morning at Belmont Park. STEPPENWOLFER - Robert and Lawana Low's Steppenwolfer stood in the starting gate and then galloped 1 ½-miles before the renovation break under exercise rider Jody Pieper. "He has never been a problem at the gate," trainer Dan Peitz said. "I just wanted to familiarize him with the gate crew and the crew with him. I don't want any surprises Derby Day." Peitz said he could take Steppenwolfer to the paddock for a walk through one morning and possibly make one afternoon paddock visit when the races are going on. Steppenwolfer is scheduled to breeze on Saturday with Derby rider Robby Albarado up. When the son of 2000 Derby runner-up Aptitude works, he'll be outfitted with four new shoes that were put on Tuesday morning after the colt galloped. "When we mapped out his schedule two months ago, we planned it so he would have a change of shoes before he worked at Churchill, if he got that far," Peitz said. SWEETNORTHERNSAINT - Joseph Balsamo and Ted Theos' Sweetnorthernsaint had a light gallop early Tuesday morning at Laurel Park before departing by van for Churchill Downs. "We're on our way," trainer Michael Trombetta said. "We should get in there around 9:30 or 10 o'clock tonight." Sweetnorthernsaint, who will be ridden in the Derby by two-time Derby winner Kent Desormeaux, will be stabled in Barn 42.
