Derby ChartsBack to Charts1999 World History President Bill Clinton was cleared of charges in his impeachment trial. August 11 marked the last total eclipse of this century. John F. Kennedy Jr, wife and sister-in-law were killed in airplane crash. 1999 CD history: The 125th runnings of the Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky Oaks highlighted the year and the end of the century. Oaks day provided a record crowd of 101,034, the fifth consecutive record attendance for the event, while the Derby drew the second-largest crowd in history, 151,051. Churchill Downs Incorporated signed an agreement to purchase Calder Race Course for $86 million and, later in the year, finalized the purchase of Hollywood Park for $140 million. Luke Kruytbosch was named the fifth announcer in the history of the track as he replaced Kurt Becker. Churchill Downs Incorporated offered an additional 30 million shares of stock and the board of directors approved a $250 million line of credit. Alex Waldrop was named the 11th president of the Churchill Downs racetrack on Sept. 14 as Tom Meeker, president and CEO of Churchill Downs Incorporated, focused total attention on the Company's growing family of tracks. |
