Tiago

Tiago is here! The younger half-brother to Giacomo made his first appearance at Churchill Downs this afternoon, and trainer John Shirreffs says "it's a thrill to be here again."

I was equally surprised and happy when Tiago won the Santa Anita Derby. I've said before that I always thought Giacomo got a bum rap after he won the Kentucky Derby. It wasn't his fault that the race fell apart up front, was it? But I digress. Shirreffs thinks Tiago has "a little better turn of foot" than his big bro'. That can't hurt.

As for his chances on Saturday, all I can say that if he improves upon his last effort, he has a chance to be there at the end. It doesn't look like the early pace is going to be all that hot, so a closer like Tiago is probably going to be at a disadvantage if he tries to sit back and make one big run. But, there seems to be some talent there, and if he stays out of trouble and brings his best run with him, who knows? Maybe he can make his mamma proud like his brother did.

I am working for Churchill Downs this week, so I have full access. I'm treating this more as a job and less as a vacation, although I am having a great time.

Justin, I can defiantely tell you I am jealous. Wish I was there. Although watching all the work outs could switch your picks and boggle the mind I bet. Tiago just don't don't do much for me, reason #1 is King of Roxy gave up the lead just as fast as he took the lead. But that is just an opinion nothing more, My question for you is, how much access do you have, I mean do you get to meet owners or trainers or go back to the stables at all? Taking any pictures that you can reflect back when you get older? Is the town electric already, when I was the the BC in Nov I think it was 3rd or 4th street we went to have some drinks and it was awesome down there, we met some people that were with the Invasor group and that is all everyone talked about. It was a great environment! Take a night if you have time and check it out. Did you take your lady with you? Enjoy the moment Bud!
