Street Sense looked awesome this week. He trained awesomely. He won awesomely.

So I passed a metal detector and went up to the sixth floor balcony next to the press box, above the Twin Spires, to watch the eighth race.

Race 7 – The La Troienne

Well, so far so good.

It’s finally time. I’ve analyzed all the preps, crunched the numbers and watched the horses in the flesh all week. It’s time to cut through the B.S.

The local weather forecast is calling for rain right through tomorrow, and that means a sloppy track is likely for the Kentucky Derby 133.

Another morning. Another rainy day at The Downs.

As a horseplayer, I rarely think about the daily routine of elite Thoroughbreds and the care and conditioning they receive so they peak on big race days.

Maybe the monsoon that's currently pounding Louisville combined with a lack of sleep has put me in a bad mood, but I was going to write this blog eventually anyway.

So this New Yorker drove from Churchill Downs to downtown Louisville this afternoon for the Kentucky Derby post position draw.
