Your best bet is to approach the wagering window with plenty of layers this year. There is nothing worse than to be cold without an extra layer to put on. So ladies out there, bring a large handbag to stuff your husband's sweater and your rain coat. In addition to the weather possibly being cold, it could be rainy and wet! Important info: do not expect to bring an umbrella in the venue to protect the your beautiful hat. Instead, a cute rain coat or the 'ol trusty poncho will have to do! In light of making a decision about a hat, shoes, handbag, here is a crash course to help.

Hats:
Be sure you make the hat a unique, yet tasteful, accent to the wardrobe. Of course, it is the most important accent on Saturday. I like to look at the hat as an attitude. It can create your mood for the day. If it is bright in color and frou frou, you will be sure to have a bubbly day. If its comfortable and light, you are less likely to endure a headache. Also, key info, pull the hair back!!

Shoes:
Prepare for walking and more walking! You will want to be somewhat comfy on the day of the Oaks & Derby when it comes to your hooves! Maybe pack a pair of flats in your big handbag to have another option from your fancy heels.

Another lesson for this crash course:

What to wear in the Club House and Millionaire's row...
Keep in mind, you never know who you might run into! Dress the way you would want to look & feel if you were to run into your biggest role model/idol. Whether it be the Chief Party Officer, Jessica Simpson, or Michael Jordan. This probably means mainstream dress in these areas will be the designer touch. This will be the best dressed avenue of the Downs, hands down! Some say beauty is pain, but I know there are cute, fashionable clothes (like the A-Line dress) which provide a route of comfort and simplicity to go with your fancy hat! For you Men, the best wager for your fashion will be a suit or sport coat...perhaps a tie with a jockey silk design, or no tie with a metro look!

What to wear in the Grandstand, Infield, Rose Garden, and Paddock areas...
You will see it all! You will see men in coat and tie, you will see women in dresses, you will see cowboys in boots and jeans. Most likely, on the more casual side! Especially in the infield, dress casual and prepare for the weather, most definitely!
