Ok, what have we learned?

In theory, the path to the Kentucky Derby winners circle has been remapped in recent years. In 2006, Barbaro prepped on the grass and took five weeks off before Derby Day. Street Sense broke all kinds of rules last year, ranging from his light schedule to his juvenile accolades. So, logic dictates that the rules have changed and that there is more than one way to smell the roses.

But I don’t care.

War Pass: toss. Any horse that has yet to make his first career start: toss. Any horse who only makes two starts between January 1st and Derby Day: toss. Any horse that attempts to win the Derby without a prep in the final four weeks: toss.

Hey, you gotta draw the line somewhere, right? I think I’ve heard that somewhere before.

It’s good to be back.

Sweet. I've been waiting for this. Good to see that you're back. The new site looks great and keeps getting better every year.

What's the early word down at Gulfstream?

Living in Louisville, I look forward to Derby fever every year. I have my eye on a 3 year old colt out of Vindication, trained by Eric Guillot. The colt's name is Signature Move. He just won a pretty easy Allowance race at Santa Anita last weekend at 1 1/16 mile and did it in 1:42 and change. I am looking forward to seeing this one up against some stiff competetion in his next start.

Hey Justin:

I am glad to see the most interesting, well written KY derby blogger is back! Best of luck this year and I hope you can nail another big exacta. If you have the time, I would love to see a San Rafael and Lecomte break down.

All the best.
