Pedigree

Anak Nakal has a pedigree well suited to the classic distance. His sire, $3.5 million earner Victory Gallop, finished second in both the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness S. (G1) before foiling the Triple Crown bid of Real Quiet in the 1 1/2-mile Belmont S. (G1). In a stretch drive that will be long remembered, Victory Gallop got up in the final stride to catch Real Quiet by inches at the wire. The following season, Victory Gallop was honored as champion older male by virtue of his victories in the Whitney H. (G1) and Stephen Foster H. (G1), the latter in track-record time at Churchill Downs. With five crops of racing age, the Mr. Prospector-line representative Victory Gallop has been contributing some additional staying power to his progeny, whose Average Winning Distance is 7.5 furlongs. However, two of his top performers -- Japanese Grade 2 star Eishin Dover and American Grade 2 queen Victory U. S. A. -- have excelled at slightly shorter distances.

Anak Nakal is the first runner produced by the two-time winner Misk, who ironically is by Quiet American, the sire of Real Quiet. This cross of Victory Gallop over a Quiet American mare produces close inbreeding (3 x 3) to the superb miler and highly influential sire Fappiano. Quiet American has posted impressive results at stud, and his progeny have compiled an Average Winning Distance of 7.5 furlongs. In recent years, he has emerged as a prominent broodmare sire. His daughters have produced such standouts as 2005 Horse of the Year Saint Liam, 2006 Preakness winner and champion three-year-old Bernardini and multiple European Group 1 scorer Cherry Mix.

Misk, a half-sister to French One Thousand Guineas (Fr-G1) victress Pearl Bracelet, hails from a French female line steeped in stamina. She is out of Perlee (Fr), a French Group 3 winner at 1 1/2 miles and a daughter of the high-class *Margouillat. The next two dams are by French Derby winner Charlottesville and undefeated Brazilian hero Emerson, respectively, completing the portrait of outstanding distance capacity.
