Trainer: David Carroll

David Carroll was was born on January 30, 1960, and grew up in Ireland. He has a wife named Kim, a 12-year-old daughter named Aisling and an 8-year-old son named Declan. Carroll worked for Shug McGauhey for six years. He galloped such notable horses as Easy Goer and Personal Flag. Since going out on his own, Caroll has trained such horses as American Chance, Fire Slam and Marshua's River.
Jockey: Calvin Borel

Calvin Borel, 41, enjoyed a banner year in 2007, capturing the Kentucky Derby and Travers aboard Street Sense; he also finished in the top 15 riders by securing over $10,000,000 in purse money. Like many Louisiana born riders, Borel began his career very early, riding match races by age 10, and became a licensed rider at 16. His brother Cecil is a trainer. Calvin rides on the Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisiana circuit. He has won over 4,000 races, topped by Street Sense's Breeders' Cup and Kentucky Derby wins. Other top mounts have included Seek Gold, Suave, Court Folly, Rockamundo, and Ermine.

Dogwood Stable is a racing partnership founded by W. Cot Campbell. Campbell, a resident of Aiken, South Carolina, primarily buys his racing stock at auction, preferring to spend less than $200,000 per horse. He is on the board of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. He created the Dogwood Dominion Award in 1993. The award is given annually to an unsung hero in the racing industry. He became involved in racing in 1973. Won the Preakness (GI) with Summer Squall in 1990. He has started six horses in the Derby.
