Bob Black Jack is from the first crop of Stormy Jack, a consistent and adaptable runner who won eight of his 21 starts including the Oceanside S. over a mile on the turf at Del Mar and finished second in the six-furlong Los Angeles H. (G3) on the main track. Stormy Jack is by Bertrando, whose own offspring win at an average distance of 6.9 furlongs and is out of Tiny Kristin who won three races, all over six furlongs. Tiny Kristin is by Steelinctive (GB), who was third in the Baldwin S. over about 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf and is by the English sprinter, Steel Heart.

Molly's Prospector, the dam of Bob Black Jack, achieved her lone victory over 5 1/2 furlongs and is by Native Prospect, whose progeny's Average Winning Distance is 6.6 furlongs. Molly's Prospector is a half-sister to the stakes-winning sprinters What a Spell, Maitlin, and Speed Dial, and to the dam of Joey Franco, who won the seven-furlong Triple Bend Invitational H. (G1) and the one-mile Del Mar H. (G2).

With speed influences dominating both sides of his pedigree, it is hard to expect Bob Black Jack to last the Kentucky Derby (G1) trip.
