Silks Georgie Boy White

Georgie Boy

Tribal Rule x Ippodamia (Peterhof)

Pedigree

Georgie Boy is by Tribal Rule, who was the leading California freshman sire of 2006. Unraced as a two- and three-year-old, Tribal Rule showed speed in winning two starts, including a six-furlong allowance event at Del Mar, but unsoundness forced his retirement after just four starts. While Tribal Rule has every right to be a good stallion being by Storm Cat, who has already proven successful as a sire of sires through the likes of Giant's Causeway, Forestry, Tale of the Cat and Hennessy, stamina limitations on his female side must be considered an issue. His dam, Sown, a two-time winner over six furlongs and a half-sister to the stakes-winning sprinter Pirate's Bounty, is also the dam of Key Phrase, who showed her speed when wiring the field in the 1995 Santa Monica H. (G1) over seven furlongs. However, Key Phrase had her lack of stamina exposed when she faltered as the odds-on favorite in her next start, the 1 1/16-mile Santa Maria H. (G1). In turn, Key Phrase was bred to Storm Cat and produced the sprinter Yankee Gentleman, whose racing highlight came through winning the Pirate's Bounty H. over six furlongs, named for his maternal-line relative. Tribal Rule has sired, in addition to Georgie Boy, six stakes winners to date, including Tribesman, winner of the six-furlong Phoenix Gold Cup H. most recently, and Rush with Thunder, who stretched his speed to a mile when winning the El Cajon S.

Georgie Boy's dam is Ippodamia, whose six victories, including the Northwest Stallion S., from 21 tries were all recorded at sprint distances. Her one try at a route resulted in a second-place finish after losing the lead at the top of the stretch. Ippodamia inherited speed from her sire, Peterhof. Despite being by an Epsom Derby (Eng-G1) winner in The Minstrel, and out of a half-sister to another winner of that testing classic in Mill Reef, Peterhof was a brilliantly fast winner of the five-furlong Flying Childers S. (Eng-G2). His progeny have an Average Winning Distance of 6.1 furlongs.

With speed influences apparent on both sides of his pedigree, it seems unlikely that Georgie Boy will be suited to this 1 1/4-mile distance.
