Pedigree
The analysis of Tomcito's pedigree does not require any theoretical projection of stamina, for he has already proven his ability to stay as far as 1 1/2 miles when racing in Peru. In his case, a perusal of the bloodlines helps to reveal the sources of his marathon capacity. His sire, the Grade/Group 1 star Street Cry (Ire), romped by 4 1/4 lengths in the 1 1/4-mile Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) in 2002. The Mr. Prospector-line stallion has gotten off to a terrific start at stud, siring champion Street Sense, last year's Kentucky Derby and Travers S. (G1) hero, in his very first crop. Street Cry's runners have also shown proficiency at shorter trips, exemplified by English Group 1-winning miler Majestic Roi, but early returns suggest that he will serve as a classic force.
Tomcito is the second foal from the unraced Inside or Outside, whose first foal, Luv a Drama (Behrens), won twice going a route of ground. Inside or Outside is by undefeated 1990 Futurity S. (G1) victor Eastern Echo, three-for-three in his abbreviated career. A very well-bred son of Damascus, Eastern Echo did not post impressive numbers as a stallion, but he was responsible for a few notable stakes winners. His top performers were Buddy Gil, successful in the 2003 Santa Anita Derby (G1) and sixth in the Run for the Roses, and 1996 Hollywood Futurity (G1) victor Swiss Yodeler, who went on to become a classy sprinter. Inside or Outside is herself a half-sister to a pair of turf milers in Numerous Times (Numerous), Canada's champion turf horse in 2001, and Ten a Penny (Gulch), who captured a division of last year's Oceanside S. at Del Mar.
Tomcito's second dam, Dramatical, boasts a pedigree rich in stamina. She is by Theatrical (Ire), the champion turf horse of 1987 whose major victories include the 1 1/2-mile Breeders' Cup Turf (G1). Dramatical is out of the stakes-winning Allegedum, whose sire, multiple champion Alleged, inscribed his name in the annals of racing history by landing consecutive editions of the 1 1/2-mile Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-G1), Europe's fall championship event.
