Trainer: Bill Mott

Bill MottA native of Mobridge, South Dakota, Bill Mott was elected into racing's Hall of Fame at age 45, the youngest conditioner to be accorded that honor, and has received the Eclipse Award as the nation's leading trainer in 1995-96. He is probably best-known as the trainer of two-time Horse of the Year Cigar, who amassed a 16-race winning streak to tie Citation's modern-day record. In addition to Cigar, Mott has trained champions Paradise Creek, Theatrical (IRE), Ajina and Escena. He is the all-time leading trainer at Churchill Downs and has won numerous training titles on the New York and Kentucky circuits. He has saddled four starters in the Kentucky Derby, the last of which coming in 2002 when Blue Burner finished eleventh.

Jockey: Rene Douglas

Rene DouglasRene R. Douglas was born March 6, 1967 in Panama City, Panama into a Thoroughbred racing family, after attending jockey school Douglas rode in his native Panama for a year and a half before moving to the United States in 1983. His first major win came in 1989 in the prestigious Washington, D.C. International. In 1996, he rode Editor's Note to victory in the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of the U.S. Triple Crown series. Rene Douglas has won three riding titles at Calder Race Course and Hialeah Park Race Track and a record four in a row from 2001 through 2004 at Arlington Park. He won seven races on a single card at Arlington Park on July 24, 2003 and has twice won six on a single card at Calder Race Course. In the richest win of his career, Rene Douglas captured the 2006 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies aboard Dreaming of Anna.

He has been involved in buying horses at auction for just a few years but has always had an interest in horses. Zayat Stable has over 100 horses dispersed amongst trainers Bob Baffert, Bill Mott, Mark Casse, Dale Romans, Patrick Biancone, Todd Pletcher, Tony Dutrow, and Rick Dutrow, Jr. Notable horses having sported the Zayat silks include Point Ashley, Got the Last Laugh, E Z Warrior and 2007 Kentucky Oaks starter High Again. Zayat owns over a dozen broodmares and has shown an interest in someday standing stallions.

Created the NetJets program, the concept of fractional jet ownership that has revolutionized the private and corporate business jet marketplace. Sold the company in 1998 to Berkshire Hathaway for $750 million … Santulli is currently chairman and CEO of NetJets Inc., which is the title sponsor of the Breeders’ Cup Mile. Santulli is on the Board of Trustees of NYRA and became a member of The Jockey Club in 2002. He is a member and trustee of Breeders' Cup Ltd. and formerly served on the board of directors ... Prussin owns Sha-Li Leasing, a computer leasing firm based in Montvale, N.J. Original partners Santulli, Prussin, David Orlinsky joined the late Jules Fink when the latter founded the racing stable in the early 1980s. The stable's name comes from the phonetic spelling of Fink's initials, with a "B" added to differentiate this operation from Fink's other racing stable. Jayeff “B” has a broodmare band of 60 producers, including 1990 Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Safely Kept, raced in partnership with Barry Weisbord. Besides her 1990 victory, she was second in the 1989 edition of the Sprint. Safely Kept received the Eclipse Award as the champion sprinter of 1989, and despite her Breeders’ Cup victory in 1990, she finished second behind Housebuster in Eclipse balloting. Jayeff “B” also raced Banshee Breeze, runner-up in the ’98 and ’99 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, in partnership with James Tafel. Along with Wayne Lyster III, Jayeff “B” bred Johannesburg, winner of the 2001 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the champion 2-year-old of 2001. Other stakes winners owned by Jayeff “B” include Jules, who took the 1996 Nashua and 1997 Long Branch, Cat Chat, winner of the 2001 Nassau County, and Awfully Smart, who captured the 2006 Leonard Richards and the 2007 DTHA Owners Day Stakes at Delaware Park ... Jayeff "B" sold the $11.7 million Kingmambo colt out of Crown of Crimson at the 2006 Keeneland September yearling sale. Richard Santulli later reported that the reserve had been $2 million.
