SUNNY'S HALO, rating kindly from the beginning, assumed command on his own courage in the backstretch, drew away from DESERT WINE under a hand ride in the upper stretch and maintained his margin under steady light hand urging the final furlong. DESERT WINE stalked SUNNY'S HALO after drawing on almost even terms with him at the quarter-pole, but continued resolutely under left hand urging and held off CAVEAT'S later bid for the place. CAVEAT, taken in hand and eased toward the inside for a saving of ground after the start, was forced extremely wide rallying around CURRENT HOPE into the stretch and closed steadily in a very good effort. SLEW O' GOLD, bothered slightly by PLAY FELLOW at the start, saved ground most of the way and bested MARFA in a duel with that rival through the homestretch. MARFA relaxed outside horses off the place, maintained a straight course under a left hand whip in the stretch drive and lacked a sufficient response. PLAY FELLOW was in good position behind the first flight and hung. PAX IN BELLO had a clear run at the leaders along the rail for the drive and failed to respond. COUNTRY PINE gave an even effort. BALBOA NATIVE made up some ground belatedly. PARIS PRINCE stayed outside rivals and tired. CURRENT HOPE was steered very wide for the stretch run. CHUMMING gave a dull effort. FREEZING RAIN was not a serious factor. MY MAC was outrun. EXPLOSIVE WAGON tired. PARFAITEMENT lost ground outside the first flight and faltered. HIGHLAND PARK stayed outside SUNNY'S HALO and DESERT WINE into the final turn before giving way. LUV A LIBRA was used up early. LAW TALK showed nothing. TOTAL DEPARTURE, brushed by SUNNY'S HALO at the start, stopped abruptly after three-quarters.
