There was strong support for unbeaten 2-year-old champion War Pass, but Kentucky Derby fans favored the mutuel field, or “all others,” on the first of four days of betting as Churchill Downs’ Kentucky Derby Future Wager opened its 10th year at racetracks and satellite wagering outlets across North America.
The “all others” betting interest stood as the 2-1 favorite at the end of the first day of Pool I of the 2008 Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which is scheduled to continue its four-day run through Sunday, Feb. 10 at 6:00 p.m. (all times EST). War Pass, the winner of the Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (GI), was a close second choice at 3-1 when wagering on Pool I’s opening day drew to a close late Thursday evening. Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runner-up Pyro was next at 10-1, while Remsen (GII) winner Court Vision stood at odds of 13-1 at the end of Thursday’s Kentucky Derby Future Wager betting.
Fans who hoped to get an early wager on the winner of the horse that will win the May 3 Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (GI) at Churchill Downs wagered $30,351 during the first day of the 2008 Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Betting on year’s opening Derby Futures pool is schedule to resume at noon on Friday, Jan. 8.
The Kentucky Derby Future Wager is a minimum $2 wager and a win bet only. It offers Kentucky Derby fans the opportunity to bet on contenders at odds that could be greater than those they would receive on Derby Day. There are no refunds in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Pool 2 is scheduled for March 6-9, while the wager’s third and final pool is set for April 3-6.
Real time odds on all three pools of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager are available on the official Kentucky Derby Web site at www.kentuckyderby.com. Pool 2 is scheduled for March 6-9, while the wager’s third and final pool is set for April 3-6.
