CashCall Futurity (G1) hero INTO MISCHIEF (Harlan's Holiday) will make his sophomore debut in Sunday's $150,000 San Vicente S. (G2) at Santa Anita. Two-for-three overall, the Richard Mandella-trained colt will face only four rivals in the seven-furlong test over Santa Anita's re-constituted Cushion Track.
Victor Espinoza, who has been aboard in every start, will once again take the reins aboard Into Mischief. The B. Wayne Hughes colorbearer captured his career bow at Santa Anita on October 21, winning a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight event by 2 1/2 lengths, and then finished second as the favorite in the November 22 Hollywood Prevue S. (G3). Into Mischief stretched out to 1 1/16 miles for the CashCall Futurity and tracked the early pace in second before moving to the fore on the final turn. The Kentucky-bred went on to post a 1 1/4-length decision.
MASSIVE DRAMA (Kafwain) will get a rubber match with the likely favorite. After defeating Into Mischief by 1 3/4 lengths in the Hollywood Prevue, Massive Drama finished third to his rival in the CashCall Futurity. The Bob Baffert pupil will attempt to rebound from a well-beaten third to El Gato Malo (El Corredor) in the January 12 San Rafael S. (G3), and he'll get a new rider in Garrett Gomez.
Comebacker GEORGIE BOY (Tribal Rule) will make his first start since winning the Del Mar Futurity (G1) in early September. Conditioned by Kathy Walsh, Georgie Boy also captured the Graduation S. and finished second in the Best Pal S. (G2) at Del Mar. The gelding will receive a rider change to Rafael Bejarano.
San Pedro S. third-placer CARDINAL ZIN (Whywhywhy) and stakes-placed RED HOT FLAME (Malek [Chi]) round out the field.
In post order, the contestants are Georgie Boy, 122; Massive Drama, 119; Red Hot Flame, Brice Blanc, 115; Into Mischief, 119; and Cardinal Zin, Alex Solis, 115.
