CashCall Futurity (G1) hero INTO MISCHIEF (Harlan's Holiday) will miss the March 15 San Felipe S. (G2) at Santa Anita, trainer Richard Mandella announced Thursday. The Kentucky Derby (G1) hopeful has been battling an ailment in his left hind foot.
"He's still fighting the foot problems, so there's no San Felipe," Mandella said. "He won't be ready for that. I don't really know (what might be next) after that."
The foot issue surfaced prior to Into Mischief's sophomore debut in the San Vicente S. (G2) on February 10. In that seven-furlong test, he pressed the pace, launched a bid turning for home, but had no response to the strong rally of Georgie Boy (Tribal Rule). Into Mischief changed leads a couple of times before settling for runner-up honors, 3 1/4 lengths adrift of the winner.
Into Mischief's record stands at 4-2-2-0, $478,800. An impressive debut maiden winner at Oak Tree last fall, the B. Wayne Hughes colorbearer was a game second in the Hollywood Prevue S. (G3) before breaking through with a decisive score in the CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park.
