Holy Bull Stakes
Holy Bull Stakes GIII
The Holy Bull Stakes is held annually at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Although this Grade III event offering a purse of $150,000 was a prep for the Florida Derby, the race will be held for the first time later on the racing calendar and at a new distance of 1 3/16 miles.
Inaugurated in 1990 as the Preview Stakes, it was created as a replacement for the Flamingo Stakes which ceased to exist following the closure of Hialeah Park Race Track. In 1996 the Preview Stakes was renamed in honor of the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame horse, Holy Bull.
Since inception, the race has been contested at various distances:
* 1 mile : 2007
* 11/16 miles : 1991-2004
* 1⅛ miles : 1990, 2005-2006
* 1³/16 miles (9.5 furlongs) : 2008
