The long shot, Mine That Bird, soared through the finish line as if he could continue for another mile. Although his run is over, there are several festivities at Churchill Downs you can enjoy even after the Kentucky Derby...
For the race fans residing in the state of Kentucky, each Friday afternoon will bring a Happy Hour to kick start the weekends with cheap beer, full race cards, and plenty of entertainment to keep you amused sponsored by Bud Select. Happy Hours start at 5 pm, and as always, you can get the $2 beer and hot dogs until 8 pm. Racing, however, will continue until roughly 11 pm.
Sunday the 10th, something we should all be celebrating, is Mother’s Day. How nice would it be to give your mother a big box with a beautiful hat and tickets to Churchill Downs for her special day? Well, the races will be full gallop ahead all day and allow for quality time with your Madre!
Saturday, May 16th marks the date of Mine That Bird’s opportunity to run for the Triple Crown in the Preakness Stakes. The thoroughbred is a long distance runner, and the Preakness is a shorter race than the Kentucky Derby. If he is able to capture the Win, he will be in the running as the 12th Triple Crown winner. The final race of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes, will take place in June.
May 23rd beginning at 11:30am marks the beginning of GE Weekend at Churchill. Lasting until May 25th at 6:00m, GE Employees and their guests get in FREE. The GE employee badge is the ticket.
Friday, June 19th marks the inauguration of “Downs After Dark.” Churchill Downs is presenting a series of races under the stars for the very first year. There are a total of three nights to sit under the lights (June 19, 26, & July 2), so plan the perfect date night or simply come experience the track in a different light! Gates open at 4 p.m. each night to begin under the beautiful sunset with a first-race post-time of 6 p.m.
