Pedigree

Chocolate Candy, who is already proven up to 1 1/8 miles, has the genetic tools to comfortably get 1 1/4 miles. His sire, Candy Ride (Arg), was named champion miler in Argentina off just three wins in his native land, then was imported to California where he pushed his career record to six-for-six before retiring prematurely. Under the tutelage of Ron McAnally, Candy Ride captured the American H. (G2) over nine furlongs on turf, then showed his versatility in taking the 10-furlong Pacific Classic (G1) by more than three lengths in a time of 1:59.

Starter Analysis

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer has thoroughly dominated the Northern California training ranks for more than two decades and would love nothing more than to make a big splash on the national scene with his best Derby contender to date, Chocolate Candy. The dark horse has never run a bad one at a route and comes in off a strong runner-up effort in the Santa Anita Derby (G1).

smarty15jones:
Chocolate Candy has the pedigree to go the distance in the KD. Look for him to Win, Place or Show.
You're not so smarty after all.

Do Widenzia.

I live two exits from Golden Gate & I have seen this colt live in those two local stakes wins. I think he is the wise guy play this year, I remember his sire Candy Ride, Krone use to ride him. He had on of the best turn of foots in mid stretch I ever seen going long.. I do hope Russel B gets the mount. Last time I checked he has the record for most wins EVER! Cant discount that no matter where you ride!

Also, dont forget when they were 2yos this guy was in the hollywood strech gaining on Pioneer of the Nile & I Want Revenge at 11/6th... Those two well be under 6-1, while this guy I hope will be over 15-1

This horse can win the Triple Crown. (I know it sounds impossible now.)

He's certainly an under-the-radar colt that could win someone a ton of cash if he matches his recent form on the first of Saturday in May. I know Justin Dew thinks highly of him at least.

the extra distance in the derby should only help C.C. down the stretch. with the right pace scenario he could runnem all down in the end. i know he hasnt run triple digit beyers yet but what better time than the derby.

When Giacomo went off at 50-1 it didn't phase me I stayed with my gut feeling , I have that same gut feeling with Chocolate Candy and I love his bloodlines and I love the fact that Mike Smith is on this horse
I think they can pull this off.
