Pedigree

Desert Party is by world-class sire Street Cry (Ire), who was arguably Godolphin's best hope of winning the Kentucky Derby (G1) before injury ruled him out of the race in 2001. An extremely talented racehorse as a juvenile, Street Cry enjoyed his most successful campaign as a four-year-old, running away to daylight wins in the 2002 Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) and the Stephen Foster H. (G1) at Churchill Downs.

Starter Analysis

Winner of the Sanford S. (G2) at two, Desert Party opened his three-year-old campaign with a pair of impressive victories in Dubai for Godolphin. He came up a half-length short as the favorite in the U.A.E. Derby (UAE-G2), but the Saeed bin Suroor-trained colt gained valuable fitness and has trained great since arriving in America.

Saeed bin Suroor

Dubai native Saeed bin Suroor is a former policeman who took out his training license in the United Arab Emirates in 1994 to start Desert Stables. In April of 1995, bin Suroor took over as the new trainer at Sheikh Mohammed's Al Quoz Stable in Dubai, the headquarters of the far-flung Godolphin operation, and he likewise supervised the Godolphin horses in England. // Full Bio ›

Ramon Dominguez, a 32-year-old native of Venezuela, began riding at age 16 in his home country, despite the strong disapproval of his father, who wanted him to become a doctor. At his father’s suggestion, he started to learn show jumping instead, but after about a year he slipped away to a nearby training center, where he began getting on the easier horses. // Full Bio ›

The resulting offspring, Desert Party, was sold for $425,000 as a Keeneland September yearling. // Full Bio ›

Desert Party, a very nice horse got beat by a "younger" horse (Regal Ransom's only a 2 year old)who's STILL learning, and learn he did by being kept to the task by Alan Garcia to win the UAE Derby holding off Desert Party. That speaks VOLUMES to me!! Is Regal Ransom better than Desert Party? I think they're both great!! If Garcia maintains the mount, hopefully a more educated Regal Ransom will repeat his performance. You know, sooner or later ,Godolphin's gonna take the Roses home, it could be this year , and why not, they've been working at their Churchill Downs replica for years . It's not a cutout of Churchill Downs, it's an EXACT replica(if you don't include the heat during the day,Ha!).Hope to see Friesan Fire or Regal Ransom make an exciting May 2nd in Louisville.
