Pedigree

Dunkirk is exquisitely bred for classic success. He is the latest contender by multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Unbridled's Song, the hero of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1), Florida Derby (G1) and Wood Memorial S. (G2). Dispatched as the 7-2 favorite in the 1996 Kentucky Derby (G1), he was compromised by foot issues and wound up running in bar shoes, but still turned in a terrific performance to finish fifth. A son of 1990 Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled, Unbridled's Song now ranks as a successful stallion, with an Average Winning Distance of 7.2 furlongs for his progeny.

Starter Analysis

No unraced two-year-old has won the Kentucky Derby (G1) since the 19th century, but this gray is surely special and could be the one to break that streak for Todd Pletcher, who is winless with 21 prior Derby runners. Produced from Kentucky Oaks (G1) stalwart Secret Status (A.P.

Glad they got him up here too. I too believe he is something special. I think he was the best horse in the Florida Derby and the track did him in. He is definately in my top 3 on my Derby contenders I just hope he gets in. Right now it looks like hes on the outside looking in.

The Ghost of Appolo ...... He sure has the 'right stuff' and a very testing albeit short campaign. How much did the track record take out of this youngster in his 3 lifetime start. Did he need another race. Is he another Big Brown or Barbaro ...... Pletcher is lucky to have him in the race and may be his time to finally win. I loved him when I saw his Mdn and Alw races and told some friends about him and said after the Florida Derby that Quality Road and Him should go 1-2 in the Derby. History Says No ... but I have this feeling he is something special. So right now I have narrowed the field down to 6 horses Dunkirk, I Want Revenge, General Quarters, Musket Man and Pioneer of the Nile
