Pedigree

Friesan Fire represents a fusion of American and Australian bloodlines of the highest order. He inherits an abundance of stamina from his sire, A.P. Indy, who captured the 1 1/2-mile Belmont S. (G1) and 1 1/4-mile Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) en route to Horse of the Year honors in 1992. A.P. Indy, himself a son of 1977 Triple Crown legend Seattle Slew, has enjoyed a highly successful career at stud. A two-time leading sire, he is responsible for such champions as Horse of the Year Mineshaft; Bernardini, winner of the 2006 Preakness S.

Starter Analysis

This impressive colt is well drawn in post six, which should ensure Friesan Fire a trip close to the rail, possibly with or right behind the first flight. Trainer Larry Jones has finished second in the last two editions of the Run for the Roses and will look to break through before he retires at the end of the year. The son of A.P.

Eight Belles' tragedy came just one day after her stablemate, Proud Spell, scored a brilliant win in the Kentucky Oaks. "This year has been like a yo-yo with the highs and lows," Jones said. // Full Bio ›

Thanks Jill for adding my personal favorite to the contender's list!

The way I see it right now, I'm hoping Larry keeps him on the dirt, that's the one thing that stands out about Friesan Fire compared to most of the other top names is his wins are indeed coming on the traditional dirt as opposed to the polytrack.

Now I know, Fox Hill's number one mount right now is likely still Old Fashioned at this point, but if Friesan Fire can at least hit the board in the Louisiana Derby and maybe the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn, I think Fox HIll has to give him a shot at the Run For the Roses.

Friesan Fire!! Keep going, going, going!! All the way to the winner's circle on May 2nd....surprized that this fine specimen isn't getting the respect he deserves, why all the NaySayers??Dunkirk's Done! stop heaping sympathy on him..........I'm totally convinced (Friesan Fire)he's gonna do it, maybe even the Triple Crown.......you know, someone's gonna accomplish this feat again....might as well be Friesan Fire!!!

This horse is tops on my Derby list as of yet. He has done everything perfectly. There is no need to go against him due to past horses who have run well at the FG then flopped on Derby Day he is a different breed from the likes of Pyro and Circular Quay plus his trainer always has his horses ready for the biggest day of the year. Be ready for this horse, he will blow your mind there are only two things that may or may not seperate him from the roses Quality Road and Dunkirk no one comes close to these top three. I Want Revenge has proven nothing other than he likes the dirt, I want to see how he can handle real horses. Either way as of today, 3/31/09 this horse with fire burning in his eyes heads my list. Friesan Fire is for real.

I am concerned that there are no posted works since his last race. Is it possible that he may be ailing? Any thoughts anyone?

HAVE HAD HIM AS MY HORSE TO WIN DERBY ALL YEAR LONG SINCE HE WAS A BABY TOO. WINS DERBY WINS TRIPLE CROWN. JONES OWNS. For those of you who jump on his bandwagon after his Derby win and Triple Crown win shame on you, you show no loyalty and never have had a good opinion. FRIESAN FIRE wins.

Sprint08, I'll gladly just take the Derby at this point. Take of that then the next focus will be the Preakness and so on.

CAMCHLOE

he'll be sitting second ALA Hard Spun w/o the early Pino move. What is the deal with the silk change?

Sprint08

04/28 8:31 am

He has the Derby in the bag.
He is also owned by Vinery so he is wearing their silks for this race.
