Pedigree

General Quarters will try to exorcise three generations' worth of Kentucky Derby (G1) demons that have bedeviled his sire Sky Mesa, grandsire Pulpit and great-grandsire A.P. Indy. Pulpit was the only one of the three who actually ran for the roses, finishing fourth in 1997 and exiting the race with a bone chip. While A.P. Indy was scratched on the morning of the 1992 classic, Sky Mesa's hopes were abandoned because of a nagging foot bruise in mid-March of 2003.

Starter Analysis

The Thomas McCarthy-owned/trained three-year-old is the Cinderella Story of the 2009 Triple Crown campaign as he’s the lone horse in the 75-year-old former principal's stable. General Quarters stamped himself as a contender with a much-the-best victory in the Blue Grass S. (G1) in his last, and he appears to be thriving at Churchill.

This Horse may also be under rated. He is a late developer, a gangly 2 year old with a crooked foot grows into a champ ! Who knows. He has learned to be a Racehorse and win big. He's hard to ignore
