Pedigree

Boys at Tosconova is from the fifth crop of the speedy Officer, who captured the Champagne S. (G1), Del Mar Futurity (G2) and Best Pal S. (G2) before finishing fifth as the 3-5 favorite in the 2001 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1); he was also second in the California Cup Juvenile and third in the Hollywood Futurity (G1), both times as the odds-on favorite going two turns; Officer raced only once at three, winning the 6 ½-furlong Zany Tactics S.

Officer is by the successful Storm Cat sire Bernstein, who passes speed to many of his runners, and Officer is out of the Septieme Ciel mare St. Helen’s Shadow, a stakes winner at six furlongs; most of Officer’s offspring are at their best going distances of a mile or less

Boys at Tosconova is the second foal out of the Coronado’s Quest mare Little Bonnet, who was Grade 3-placed and made all but two of her career 14 starts at distances longer than a mile, and she’s out of multiple Grade 3 winner Valid Bonnet, who was effective at two turns and is herself a daughter of the Grade 1-placed Miss Cox’s Hat

Coronado’s Quest captured the 1 ¼-mile Travers (G1), but he’s made his mark as a broodmare sire with predominantly one-turn specialists, including 2010 champion sprinter Kodiak Kowboy, Grade 1 winner Mini Bhavan and Canadian Grade 2 winner Grand Adventure; he’s also the broodmare sire of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G2) runner-up and potential Kentucky Derby contender Soldat

His female family provides some encouragement for the Kentucky Derby, but Boys at Tosconova's pedigree is geared toward distances less than 1 1/4 miles
