He trained Rags to Riches not only to win the Kentucky Oaks in 2007, but became the first filly to take the Belmont Stakes in 102 years. He won four straight Eclipse Awards as top trainer from 2004-2007 and again in 2010. He has trained multiple Eclipse champions including Uncle Mo, Ashado, English Channel, Speighstown, Fleet Indian, Wait a While, Lawyer Ron, and Left Bank.

Calvin Borel

Jockey

Borel was born in a small town in South Louisiana and he knew from a very early age he wanted to become a jockey. Borel captured the hearts of millions of Americans when he won his first career Kentucky Derby in 2007 on Street Sense. He followed that up two years later with a rail skimming ride on longshot Mine That Bird to win the 2009 edition. In 2010, he scored his third Kentucky Derby victory in four years aboard Super Saver. Nicknamed “Bo-Rail” for his daring rides along the inside fence, Borel is today’s “king” of the Kentucky Derby.

WinStar Farm LLC.

In 2010, WinStar experienced its first victory in the Kentucky Derby with Super Saver. That same year Drosselmeyer, was the surprise winner of the Belmont Stakes and would go on to capture the Breeders Cup Classic in 2011. Their first Derby starter came in 2006 with a second place finish by Bluegrass Cat. In 2008 both Colonel John and Court Vision made a Run for the Roses, as did Mr. Hot Stuff in 2009. They were represented in 2009 as well with homebred Well Armed winning the $6 million Dubai World Cup, the world's richest race.

  • Maria’s Mon won both the one-mile Futurity (G1) and 1 1/16-mile Champagne S. (G1) during his racing career
  • The sire’s top rated offspring is champion Wait a While and Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Monarchos
  • The progeny of Maria’s Mon have won from four furlongs to 2 ½ miles, with an average winning distance of seven furlongs
  • Super Saver’s dam is the winning Supercharger
  • Supercharger is out Grade 3 winner Get Lucky, making her a full sister to Grade 2 winners Daydreaming and Girolamo
  • Another of Supercharger’s full sisters, She’s a Winner, is herself the dam of Grade 1 winner and Kentucky Derby runner-up Bluegrass Cat
  • Other notables in Super Saver’s female line include champions Rhythm, Numbered Account and Woodman
  • Supercharger’s sire is Horse of the Year and Belmont S. (G1) winner A.P. Indy
  • Daughters of A.P. Indy have also produced the likes of Grade 1 winners Mr. Sidney, the aforementioned Wait a While and Any Given Saturday
  • Super Saver should have no problem with staying the distance in the Derby
