Larry Jones trained 2011 Horse of the Year Havre De Grace who defeated the males in the G-1 Woodward Stakes. A native of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, he has had success in the Kentucky Oaks with victories by Believe You Can in 2012 and Proud Spell in 2008. Jones just missed winning the Kentucky Derby in back-to-back years as Hard Spun and Eight Belles both ran second in 2007 and 2008. Jones has also trained top horses Friesan Fire, Island Sand, Old Fashioned, Mr. Bowling, Joyful Victory, and Mark Valeski.
Brereton C. Jones
Brereton Jones was the Governor of Kentucky from 1991-1995 and is a founding member of KEEP (Kentucky Equine Education Project). In 2008 he was the recipient of the Warner L Jones Horseman of the Year Award for outstanding service to the thoroughbred industry. Jones and wife Libby are the owners of Airdrie Stud in Lexington, Kentucky which stands 10 stallions including Proud Citizen. Airdrie has bred over 135 stakes winners and has sold horses at public auction over the last 30 years. They are consistently among the leading breeders in the country. Jones has teamed up with trainer Larry Jones to win the 2012 Kentucky Oaks with Believe You Can the 2008 Kentucky Oaks with Proud Spell, who would also win the Alabama at Saratoga and earn an Eclipse for Outstanding Three-Year-Old. Other recent top horses include Biofuel, No Such Word and Mark Valeski and Mr. Bowling.
